Although April did bring some showers (& more!), we had more of a "Spring", as seen in this image below, & Summer has settled pretty well (including some real heat, plus, currently, occasional rain):

Here's hope! -

All the Best for 2010, however cold it began!

Surprised We hope too that your Summer has been good so far, & more securely-founded than this ensemble above ! Surprised

But here are a couple of reminders of even warmer times, on our holiday last September to the Western Pyrenées, France:

2009 Our BIGGEST Holiday sub-album, France > click: "Béarn "  - compare with earlier big Gallery item - 'Break in Venice, ...' 2009 - click to view; and, in between, summer trips to West Wycombe, Petworth, Hampton Court, Canterbury, Bateman's, Bodiam, Smallhythe Place, Tudeley, Tunbridge Wells, Cranbrook ....  See some aspects of these in '2009 Holidays...', 'Stained Glass', 'Stained Glass & Heraldry', 'Art & Architecture'albums & sub-albums, with links between albums often provided for comparisons or development.

Our Contents list, via the "Contents / Index" link in the top-page Menu, has clickable links, to enable a more logical search than the rather random method that's encouraged by browsing our Selective INDEX.  This list of Contents is updated as necessary - any useful suggestions welcome.

Our Gallery, run from a different Server, is nowadays a little smarter, with some re-ordering of items, as well as some use of coloured text, for variety & occasionally thematically, and also some clickable links to enable you to slip easily from one item to another within the Gallery & into the Main Site Sections.

 2009

A good trip down to London on 18th March 2009 - basically for a Heraldry Society lecture at the Society of Antiquaries of London, about St Etheldreda's, Ely Place - the visit to the church in Ely Place, just off Holborn, was excellent - where Vic's Mum & Dad were married in the mid-1930s, so an interesting first visit to a delightful relic.  Lovely heraldry, much of it part of some stunning stained glass ( some pics in our 'Gallery' ).  Then took advantage of the warm sun to walk round Lincoln's Inn (click for pics ) & Lincoln's Inn Fields, then later Green Park & St James, (with a long stop in Royal Academy restaurant for delicious traditional English afternoon tea) en route to evening talk.                                                                                                              Life is hard!

Long Stained Glass Article

After two or three Great Days in September/October '08 at ELY (click on link for images ), during which time we attended Frances Spalding's super talk on John Piper, second in the Autumn series of the STAINED GLASS Museum lectures, Vic was inspired towards a new project .  The outcome is now published at the start of our 'Stained Glass' section.  Here's a taster of the material: click this link .

NOSTALGIA SPOT:

 2008

We've been back home, by a long time now, from our week in Cannero Riviera in September 2008,  but stiil relish that calm & warmth :

WE'VE ALSO BEEN BACK A GOOD WHILE NOW FROM OUR HOLIDAYS/BREAKS IN 2008 TO ROME (May) & PROVENCE (July),  BUT it's still hard to drag our minds from this view below that we had while sipping our early morning cuppa in Provence (plans already well under weigh to go there for Vic's 70th in 2010) :

Above pic a bit puzzling? - Have a look at the piece on CANONS ASHBY NT Property in our HERALDRY section

& maybe at the slightly older piece, "WHY (me and) HERALDRY", also in our main Site, for a personal approach to the attractions of this subject.

SOUTH STONEHAM REUNION Aug 11th '08

Brian Beadle really did us & himself proud with the Reunion (Aug 11th) covering our Years

(1957-62) at South Stoneham House, our Hall of Residence at University of Southampton -

Rod Challis & I encouraged BB to go for it in summer 2007, resulting in a lot of work done by him,

on instigation of John Lowe & Rod up in Lancs., with help also from Colin Attree & Nev Brenchley:

guests enjoyed a lunch at Connaught, followed by a walk round the grounds of a now sadly deteriorating 18th Century House,

& afternoon cream tea for us with wives, girlfriends & mistresses, to finish a great day - PICTURE & key below

"A" buttons (top right) = reduce/increase text-size

Try "Search" button (top right) - see if  topic included in main site (not "Gallery") - eg type in "Portugal", or your own guess > hit "Return" key to bring up "Search" page, on which you'll find extracts from articles with RED title - click on each RED LINK = bring up full article - if needed, at foot of each window, create "Find" field (Ctrl-F),  type word(s) you're looking for into it & use up/down arrows (currently blue) beside it to get precise positions or uses of word(s) chosen

Try foot-of-page lists = get quickly to Popular or Recent topic included already

Use "Read ..." buttons to get more on topic introduced already, & remember the  "Next" or "Previous" links to go back & forth in  an article of more than one page
